Susumaniello 'Verso Sud' from I Pastini is a bit of a crowd pleaser with an opulent texture and bags of soft juicy red bramble fruit and plum notes on the nose. It is silky on the palate with violet notes and darker black fruit behind cherry and toasted oak flavours. Historically, the Susumaniello grape was blended with other grape varieties to add colour and a bit of oomph to otherwise boring cheap blends. Recent times have seen growers explore the true potential of the grape with I Pastini being one of the forerunners.
